Four Easy Ways to Make a Good Marriage Great

Marriage is a wonderful institution. It is a bond between two people who love each other dearly. Sometimes, however, marriages can grow stale or can seem stuck in a rut. But there are steps you can take to help boost the love in a marriage. Here are four easy ways to make a good marriage a great one.

Laugh

You know that saying “live, laugh, love”? It’s more than just a slogan or a catchy phrase to put on a greeting card. Laughing is an essential part of any great marriage. When was the last time you and your partner laughed together? And not at a joke on the television – I mean really laughed together?

Smiling and laughter – genuine laughter – are powerful tools which create a strong sense of togetherness in a relationship. They are key bonding tools to help strengthen and fortify your love. Laughing together makes you feel a closeness and connection with your partner, and can help you feel better about yourself.

Positivity

Far too often in life, people tend to be overly negative. Negativity, while it may seem like a natural reaction to bad events, is actually a creation of our own. Negativity is simply how we choose to look at events and not their reality. Not only that, but negativity can have a corrosive effect on relationships and marriage.

Marriage does not need to be filled with stress and worry. After all, there are two sides to every situation. By trying to be more positive, you can slowly – but surely – turn the stress of marriage into joy. Positivity takes times, but its rewards are countless. By making small steps each day, each week and each month, you can slowly create a positive outlook which can help your marriage thrive.

Be Grateful

Gratitude offers a whole host of health benefits. In fact, research shows that gratitude can provide improved motivation for exercise and can even help you sleep better. When you make a conscious effort to be grateful to your spouse, you are showing them that you care for them and you value them deeply. Little gestures, such as leaving a note telling your spouse that you love them, can go a long way in turning a good marriage into a great one!

Find Common Ground

Sharing common interests can really help a marriage grow. Whether they be common loves for tv shows, common attitudes towards subjects, or even common thoughts you share, common ground is an essential part of strengthening marriage. By finding ways to expand the things you have in common, you are taking proactive steps to turn your love from good to great!

Apart from these four general principles, we’ve found the following list to be a wonderful way for couples – especially those in long-term relationships – to keep their love alive by taking time to savor and relish happiness each day instead of just a few big ones:

10 Ways to Show You Care About Your Lover

  1. Greet me with a kiss and hug in the morning before you get out of bed.
  2. Smile and say you’re glad to see me when you wake up.
  3. Make fresh orange juice for me in the morning.
  4. Reach over and touch me when we’re driving.
  5. Tell me you love me.
  6. Call me at work, just for a half a minute to tell me you’re thinking about me.
  7. Just hold me when you see I’m down.
  8. If you’re going to stop at the store, ask me if there’s anything I want or need.
  9. Really look at me when I’m telling you something important.
  10. Tell me I’m nice to be around.
